LEAD PASTOR – DARREN WHITEHEAD

In 2013 with a small team, Darren and Brandy Whitehead founded Church of the City, with a vision to plant a family of churches that live in the way of Jesus for the renewal of global cities. What began as a small team meeting in living rooms has grown to more than 6,000 people worshiping in seven churches across Nashville and New York City. Darren holds a master’s degree in ministry and a doctor of ministry in strategic leadership. He recently released his second book, Holy Roar: 7 Words That Will Change The Way You Worship, co-authored with worship leader Chris Tomlin. Darren lives with his wife, Brandy, and their three daughters in Nashville, Tennessee.

Join us online today for our “Journey to the Cross” experience where we spend time in remembrance of Christ’s crucifixion and death.

Beginning tomorrow, pastors from each of our Nashville churches will lead us through a devotional exercise out of the book of Psalms. This will be made Monday - Friday over the course of several weeks. We encourage you to engage as an individual or family and commit to this journey. One of the most profound things we can do with the time now available to us is to spend it getting to know more of God through the Scriptures. Additionally, last Sunday Darren discussed how the primary tactic of the enemy is FEAR. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of love, power and a sound mind. [2 Timothy 1:7] Our cities, our nation, and our communities need a church that is not ruled by fear, but by faith. We trust in a God who is in complete control. In this next season, the church has the opportunity to be a calming, stabilizing presence in a world of fear, worry and anxiety. So…as this continues to unfold, may we be people of great faith and not ruled by fear. Prepared people can lead in crisis with a thoughtful response. Unprepared people can only react. Because we want to be prepared and thoughtful, we are being proactive in the following ways regarding how our church will handle Sunday services. We will have pre-packaged communion at all locations, volunteers that will hold open the doors for you and your family, online giving options, KidCity check-in assistance, and we encourage you to wave and smile, rather than shake hands and give hugs. We are monitoring this situation closely and will keep you updated with any changes!
